Intersegmental GE Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) Certificate of Achievement

Students may complete their lower-division general education coursework at College of the Desert prior to transfer to a four-year institution. The UC system requires 60 completed transferable units for students to enter as an upper-division student. The general education units, 35-43, combined with major preparation must be equal to or greater than 60 transferable units prior to enrollment.  Students should view major specific requirements on ASSIST.org and consult with a counselor for major-specific transfer planning.

The remaining coursework to earn a bachelor's degree is to be completed in the upper- division at the institution granting the degree. Once a student has earned the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) Certificate of Achievement, the Office of Admissions and Records will automatically award the certificate provided the student completes a degree or certificate application through the student portal.

Learning Outcomes

Upon satisfactory completion of this program students will be able to:

  2. Students will be able to differentiate between GE preparation and major coursework.
  3. Students will be able to express diversity through multiple disciplines and across various cultures through reading, speaking, and writing.
