Art History AA-T Degree

The Associate in Arts in Art History for Transfer, also called the Art History AA-T Degree, prepares students academically to transfer to a university or other four-year college to complete a baccalaureate degree in Art History or a related field.  More broadly, Art History majors develop critical thinking and communication skills, along with a knowledge of global history and culture, that are sought after in a wide range of employment sectors, including hospitality, health and human services, and education.

The Art History AA-T is especially designed for students who plan to complete a bachelor’s degree in Art History at a CSU campus. Students completing an Art History AA-T are guaranteed admission to the CSU system, but not to a particular campus or major. The Art History AA-T degree requires students to complete 60 CSU transferable units including completion of CSU GE or IGETC and 18 units in the major with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or better. Title 5 requires that students must earn a “C” or better for each course in the major or area of emphasis. There are no additional graduation requirements. Students are advised to consult with a counselor to verify transfer requirements.

Students with an Art History undergraduate degree are prepared for entry-level career opportunities in the arts, humanities, and education, and for graduate-level education. Art History majors may find work in museums and art galleries as curators, educators, exhibition designers, researchers, in marketing and outreach, and in art restoration and conservation; curatorial and conservation work often requires an advanced degree. There are also teaching opportunities at the elementary and high school levels for Art History majors with proper teaching credentials, while post-secondary teaching requires at least a master's degree in the field.
