Elementary Teacher Education AA-T Degree
The Associate in Arts in Elementary Teacher Education for Transfer, also called the Elementary Teacher Education AA-T Degree, is designed to prepare students for a seamless transfer with junior status to a CSU campus in a program or major in Liberal Studies, Integrated Teacher Education Programs for completion of a baccalaureate degree. Upon successful completion of courses leading to the Elementary Teacher Education AA-T Degree the student will be able to know and understand the established as well as recent theories of child development and apply human development theory to observation and practice. The successful student will be able to analyze and think critically about the teacher’s role in early learning and development settings.
This degree requires students to meet both of the following requirements:
- Completion of 60 semester units that are eligible for transfer to the California State University, including both of the following:
- The Intersegmental GE Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) or the California State University GE-Breadth Requirements (CSU GE-B).
- A minimum of 18 semester units in a major or area of emphasis. All courses in the major or area of emphasis must be completed with a grade of "C" or better.
- Obtainment of a minimum grade point average of 2.0.
The Elementary Teacher Education AA-T Degree requires students to complete 60 CSU transferable units including completion of CSU GE-B or IGETC and 55 units in the major with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or better. Title 5 requires that students earn a grade of ‘C” or better in all courses required for the major or area of emphasis. There are no additional graduation requirements. Students should consult with a counselor when planning to complete the degree for more information on university admission and transfer requirements.
