Movies play a tremendously important role in our culture. How much do we know about the history and making of our favorite films and do we really know how to watch them?
The Introduction to Film Certificate of Completion explores the powerful impact film has on us and the techniques filmmakers use to make us respond.
Students examine how elements like narrative & genre, mise-en-scene, camera work, editing and sound work together to create meaning in films. We'll examine the business and history of film along with various narrative forms of cinema, including documentary, animated films, and experimental films.
Learning Outcomes
Upon satisfactory completion of this program students will be able to:
- Analyze elements including narrative & genre, mise-en-scene, camera work, editing and sound in a film and evaluate how well they are used to communicate the film's major themes.
- Analyze film writing and write about film themselves.
